jive n' jitterbug. It gives swing lovers the opportunity to dance the night away - a spectacle
which should not be missed by those who haven't yet ventured into the vibrant world of swing
dancing. Whether you are a first time lindy-hopper or have already rocked around the clock then
you will love The Nickel Club. Or you can simply sit back and enjoy the music from the roaring 20s
through to the rock n'roll years in a fun and casual social environment.
The Nickel Club is the perfect venue to enjoy a night out away from the norm.
It includes a free dance class for absolute beginners as Galway Swing continues to bring guys and
girls together on the dance floor. Already hundreds of absolute beginners across the city and county
have caught the jitterbug and are learning to transform their two left feet into confident dancers
through Galway Swing. The Nickel Club provides a chance to see what it's all about in a relaxed and
friendly atmosphere.
The Nickel Club is Galway Swing's very own niteclub and we want to bring you the
very best in music and entertainment. To fulfill this promise, we are proud to introduce Galway's
newest band - The Nickel Club 5. The Nickel Club 5 are a group of talented musicians who have come
together especially for Galway Swing to provide you with a crackin' night out. There is nothing like
a live performance of the swing and big band greats and the Nickel Club 5 are guaranteed to pull
out all the stops for an amazing rendition of the legendary classics time and time again.
For the first time, the musical styling of Keara Rose Sheeran, Tony Higgins,
Peter Joyce, Aengus Hackett and John O'Dwyer have come together to re-create the booming sounds
of an era epitomised by Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Glen Millar, with rousing drum beats,
sax solos and strong vocal melodies. They will set the stage alight with their unique swing and
jazz fusion, combining up tempo numbers with softer easy listening tunes.
With Tony Higgins on drums, Peter Joyce on sax, Aengus Hackett on guitar
and John O'Dwyer on double bass, The Nickel Club 5 have a strong instrumental core, uniting contemporary
jazz with a modern twist. Together with the amazing vocal ability of lead singer, Keara Rose Sheeran, The
Nickel Club 5 bring you a new sound, linking an era of generations gone by with the modern age.
The Nickel Club is unique as, not only will you be able to enjoy top class live music
with the Nickel Club 5, a swing DJ dedicated to the best of tunes from the 20s to the 50s, but it is located
in the comfortable surroundings of The Warwick Hotel in Salthill. The Nickel Club uses the main dance floor
for its events to ensure there is plenty of space for jitterbugging and socialising. With a full bar, a
huge dance floor and seats for tired feet, it is the perfect venue to meet new people and become one of
the hundreds who are joining the Galway Swing Dance scene.
Admission to The Nickel Club is €10 and includes a free swing dance class
for absolute beginners from 7.30pm on Friday, February 22nd. The Swing DJ will play the best
of a golden music age until 11pm with free admission to the Warwick nightclub afterwards.
