Galway Swing offers a variety of courses aimed at all levels to produce high quality, well-rounded dancers. Whether you are a complete novice with two left feet, or an accomplished swing dancer seeking new challenges, our courses provide something for everyone. See the descriptions below to find the course that suits you.

What is the Beginners Swing Dance Course?
The Galway Swing beginners swing dance course is the entry level course for all who wish to learn swing dance. We teach the basic steps that every swing dancer must learn. But you will learn more that just basic moves; you will learn how to combine these moves into a flowing form that is known as swing dancing.

What are Galway Swing Routine Level 1 Swing Dance Courses?
Attending the Galway Swing Routine Level 1 course you will learn the first two basic routines that are the bread and butter of every swing dancer. They are Jive Mr. Boogie and the Shim Sham. Both these routines are great fun and are known the world over. Performing these routines at swing socials and events can really be a great ice breaker. The routines course will seriously increase your knowledge and dance style.

Galway Swing Improvers Level 1 Swing Dance Course

What are the Improvers Level 1A and 1B Swing Dance Courses?
The Improvers courses are designed to take a novice dancer who has just completed either a beginners course or complete the equivalent in Drop-in classes to the next level of dancing. If you don't feel quite confident enough yet to step out onto the dance floor, when you complete these courses you'll be hungering for it.

At improvers courses you will learn exciting new moves the basics of connection and the importance of musicality. This level is split into four stages to make learning much easier. Although you must complete a beginners course or at least 10 weeks or dropin classes before you can start Improvers Level 1A courses, you can do course A or B in any order you want.

As an Improver, the Beginners class is even more important to you. You should attend a beginners class at least once a week as well as continuing your study of dance at the improver's level. This will stand to you as a swing dancer and will make a dramatic difference to you ability to learn and your enjoyment of dance in the future.

Technique is very important and although you should now know the basic steps for a Lindy Hop, Six beat and Charleston now, there is always something to learn in Beginners. Even professional Swing Dancers still attend Beginners classes.

What are the Improvers Level 2A and 2B Swing Dance Courses?

What are Galway Swing Routine Level 2 Swing Dance Courses?
Attending the Galway Swing Routine Level 2 course you will learn 3 routines. These routines are designed to increase your knowledge of dancing and improve your ability to pick up and learn new routines. They are more challenging than the Routine Level 1 routines. These routines will be enhance and grow your knowledge of connection, musicality and performance. They include: The Nosy Joe.

Both these routines are great fun. Performing these routines at swing socials and events can really be a great ice breaker. The routines courses will seriously increase your knowledge and dance style.

What are Galway Swing Intermediate Swing Dance Courses?
Well you've made it! You know the scene and you still hunger for more. This year you can have it, intermediate classes are back! If you want to get a shot at joining the performance troupe then you have take this class. It's a serious step up from improvers.

Time:5pm - 6pm

Requirements:

  • Have completed Level 1 and Level 2.
  • You must know Jive Mr Boogie and the Shim Sham.
  • Complete all Galway Swing Improver courses or the equivalent.
  • At least 1 Year of Regular Swing Dancing instruction.
  • Practicing external to course time is essential.
  • Flat shoes are highly recommended.

Galway Swing Performance Level 1 Swing Dance Course

What are Galway Swing Performance Level 1 Swing Dance Courses?
Attending the Galway Swing Performance Level 1 course will be great crack. Routines at this level will require specialised hard work to master and a commitment to your troupe mates. This is it your big break, routines include everything from the basic Charleston to complex high flying aerials.

At the Performance level 1 course you will learn the finer point of dancing in front of an audience, the best way to impress judges, excellent routines that will challenge you both physically, mentally, how to perform as a troupe and much, much more! A partner is not necessary but we will endeavour to always have even numbers.

Auditions: June/July 2008.
